The transition from the third to the fourth generation of UCB family shareholders had been carefully planned for over a decade by my aunts, uncle and father. My three cousins and I knew that we would probably be working together for at least twenty years to support UCB's future innovation and growth. The competition around the succession process and many other unspoken issues had somewhat hampered our deep friendship and mutual respect. In less than two working days, Sophie helped us to get to the heart of these issues, to feel them, to express them clearly, and to move forward with a stronger sense of unity and determination than ever before.

These two days have fuelled our interactions over the last few years.
